Im jare nach Cristi geburt Tausent vierhundert vier vn[d] neützig vnd darnach getruckt auss dem selbigen Strassburgerischen exe[m]plar zů Augspurg in d' keyserlichen stat vo[n] Hannsen Schönsperger im jar nach Cristi vnsers herre[n] geburt Tausent vierhundert acht vn[d] neüntzigosten. Am afftermontag nach vnsers herren auffart [May 28]. Date given in Goff as May 29. May 29 corrected in BM 15th cent. to May 28. The Monday after Ascension Day in 1498 was May 28; cf. ISTC. "The Strassburg 1494 edition (Hain 3743), of which this and the 1495 Schönsperger issue (Hain 3744) are reprints, was unauthorized and contains a number of additions not due to Brant. The small woodcuts are those used in Schönsperger's 1497 issue of the Latin translation (IA.6366)"--BM 15th cent. Signatures: a⁸ b-h⁶ i-k⁴ l⁶ m-n⁴ o-s⁶ Imperfect: terminal blank wanting. Latin ms. note on title mentions Brant, similar works by Geiler and Höniger. German ms. note (18th century) on s7 verso describes copy of Luther's Passional, 1521, apparently originally bound in following Narrenschiff. Bound in sheep blind tooled in Augsburg pattern not before 1521; metal of one clasp (of two) surviving and traces of chaining. Hinges restored, book resewn after removal of Passional. Corner of f4 repaired with facsimile. Many underlinings of text. Book stamp of Fürst Stolberg on verso a1.
